Emirates SkyCargo operates state-of-the-art cargo facilities at its dual hub locations in Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC).
Emirates SkyCentral at Dubai International Airport comprises 43,600 square metres with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes. It has an extensive handling area comprising a five-storey Automatic Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS) with more than 10,000 loose cargo storage locations, and a sizeable seven-storey Pallet Container Handling System (PCHS) for 2,500 Unit Load Devices (ULDs), 220 of which are dedicated positions for temperature-controlled ULDs.
Emirates SkyCentral at Dubai World Central, the carrier’s dedicated freighter terminal, began operations in May 2014 and can handle 700,000 tonnes of cargo per annum. It was developed and built to meet the future growth requirements of Emirates SkyCargo and features an extensive cool chain facility.
Emirates SkyPharma is Emirates SkyCargo’s dedicated facility for handling and transport of pharmaceutical shipments located at Dubai International Airport. It includes two temperature controlled zones (2-8 degree Celsius and 15-25 degree Celsius), 88 temperature controlled individual positions in the automated pallet handling system and 5 temperature controlled acceptance and delivery truck docks.
Emirates SkyCargo is the first cargo airline in the world that has obtained GDP certification for its hub operations covering two airports and the 24/7 bonded trucking service that connects cargo between them. The carrier also operates the largest GDP certified area in the world offering a total area of 8,600 square metres of combined handling space dedicated for pharmaceutical products at Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central.
With Emirates SkyCargo’s dual operation of belly hold cargo being managed at its Cargo Mega Terminal at Dubai International and freighter cargo at DWC, cargo is moved 24/7 by truck between the two airports via a bonded virtual corridor. Emirates SkyCargo has 47 trucks that ply the virtual corridor between the two airports, with each truck being equipped with satellite tracking to ensure the safety and security of cargo and staff. The movement of cargo between the two airports is achieved seamlessly with a transit time of just five hours between the arrival of goods to their departure from freighter to belly hold and vice versa.
Emirates SkyCargo has been at the forefront of the air cargo industry receiving numerous awards over the years, In 2016 alone, the carrier won the award for Overall Carrier of the Year at the Payload Asia Awards held in Hong Kong, the ‘Best Air Cargo Carrier- Middle East’ at the 2016 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards held in Shanghai, the ‘Best Cargo Airline Middle East 2016’ at the World Air Cargo Awards in London and the ‘Diamond Award’ at the Air Cargo Excellence Awards 2016 in Berlin.
